_   I walked past this very unassuming ramen shop in Oizumi Gakuen in Nerima during the day many times while visiting a friend who lived nearby. I scarcely noticed it. The first time I saw it at night though, it leapt out of the darkness. And so it is for so much of Tokyo, the beauty behind her drab exterior – like Cinderella – only revealing itself after the sun has gone down.  _  Since his first visit to Japan in 1975 Canadian illustrator Johnny Wales has lived in Tokyo and Sado Island, where he now makes his home.   His children’s books have won the Lucy Maud Montgomery Children’s Literature Award and he has been shortlisted for Canada’s premiere literary prize, the Governor General’s Award.
