“I visited Japan on my honeymoon in 2018. The first stop on our trip was Tokyo, where we arrived at night. I remember vividly the ride from the airport to our hotel in Shinjuku, and seeing the bright neon lights of the city for the first time, through the taxi window. It was such a colourful assault on the senses, like nothing I'd ever seen before. I wanted to portray that sense of amazement at seeing Tokyo for the first time, in my cover illustration for The Tokyoiter.”
